The continuing saga of what the heck I listen to on my MP3 player
I have a few songs that have to do with the names of my greyhounds. Sort of a Theme Song for each dog.
Del Shannons “Runaway” and The Beatles “Ticket to Ride” were theme songs for my dogs Runz and Ticket who are no longer with us.
With that in mind, finding a theme song for my greyhound named Morgan WAS a problem. But one night on the ride home the perfect song came on the radio.
Morgans nickname is Mo.
Billy Idol sings Mo Mo Mo (or More More More, without the R’s very pronounced) in the song Rebel Yell.
So here is Morgans Theme

Continuing with the latest installment of posting a video (or someones homemade video) of a song from my MP3 player.
Dennis Leary is a comedian from my hometown area of Boston Massachusetts. Lately he’s known more for his TV and movie roles, but he was once one of the more irreverant, and sometimes irratating, funny men.
He wrote and sang a song that I often use to describe myself.
This isn’t the official video, which is blocked from being embedded.

Yet another song from my MP3 player. The Night Chicago Died, by Paper Lace. Big hit in 1974, and from the era of music that I enjoy the most. Being a song from 1974, there isn’t an actual video for it, but this montage of pictures is good enough… sort of cheesy like the song itself.
Paper Lace was a British band with lots of cheesy pop hits, such as Billy Don’t Be A Hero and… well yeah, that’s about all their hits.

Growing up listening to both Country and Western music, I have a fairly big appreciation for the artists from the 1960’s and 1970’s. One of my absolute favorites is the legendary Willie Nelson.
I’ve seen Willie in concert once, and that was fantastic. The song tonight is the song he opens most of his shows with… Whiskey River.
Willie’s principal guitar is a Martin N-20 nylon-string acoustic, which he has named “Trigger”, after Roy Rogers’ horse. Constant strumming over the decades has worn a large hole into the guitar’s body near the sound hole. The guitar has been signed over the years by over a hundred of Nelson’s friends and associates, from fellow musicians to lawyers and football coaches.
Willie Nelson is a true American Legend.

Way back when… about 20+ years ago, I was just starting out in what was then called Data Processing. Today it’s called Information Technology. Same shit, different name. The suits earn their money changing the names of departments.
Ah, but this is supposed to be about music. Specifically about music on my MP3 player.
In the very first data center I worked in we had a boom box, and each person was allowed to pick the music for one night, on a rotating basis. We had this one guy who liked what I would then call “weird music”.. being the rocker that I was.
I absolutely loved some of this weird music, but non more than Jean-Luc Ponty, the electric violinist.
My favorite Jean-Luc song is his take on Chopins Prelude 20. Very sad song, but full of emotion.

Time for the next (second) installment of The Saturday Night Song. In these posts, I pick a song from my MP3 player, find a video of it, and share it with you… possibly adding some comments.
Tonights song is actually going to be multiple songs, on a theme.
Superman
First up will be Superman by a band called Lazlo Bane. If you watch the TV show Scrubs, you’ll know this is the theme song to that show.
Lazlo Bane is a group from California that has basically “made it” as independents. Most of their material is self released, and actually pretty good stuff. Their latest album is called Guilty Pleasures and is nothing but covers of hit 1970’s songs.
Next up is Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down
This band is from Mississippi, and became popular on the heels of this song. It is certainly a fun video.
Last up is Crash Test Dummies, Superman’s Song. I’ve always enjoyed Brad Roberts voice, and lyrically this is one of the best Superman songs ever written.
So, I hope you’ve enjoyed this installment of The Saturday Night Song, Superman Edition. FYI, my MP3 players Superman folder has eight total songs.

OK, time to start a weekly feature on this blog.
The Saturday Night Song will be where I post a video of a song that I have on my MP3 player. I may or may not comment on the song or the artist.
To get things started, I’m going to post four videos on tonights premier of
The Saturday Night Song(s)
Hope you enjoyed the varied selection from my musical tastes. Next Saturday I’ll limit it to one song/video, and comment on the artist and/or song.
